Bio

Leigh Miller is adept as an orchestral musician, soloist, chamber musician and educator and brings a variety of experiences to her career.

Leigh is currently the contrabassoonist for the the Springfield Symphony Orchestra and also has performed as bassoonist and contrabassoonist with many professional ensembles, including the Kansas City Symphony, Kansas City Philharmonia, Cedar Rapids Symphony, Topeka Symphony, Boston Civic Symphony and the West Virginia Symphony Orcestras.  Leigh has performed as concerto soloist with the University of Kansas Wind Ensemble, University of Kansas Symphony Orchestra, Ottawa University Symphony Orchestra and Ohio University Symphony Orchestra and has given numerous solo and chamber music recitals.

Leigh has been on the bassoon faculty at the Midwestern Music Camp since 2005, giving lessons and master classes to junior and senior high school bassoonists.  She also has a private studio of students from the Lawrence and Shawnee areas.  While in Boston, Leigh's work as a Community Outreach Fellow at the New England Conservatory brought music to local elementary school students in the greater Boston area.

Leigh moved to Kansas in 2006 to begin work on the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Kansas where she is a bassoon teaching assistant.  She earned a Graduate Diploma in bassoon performance from the New England Conservatory of Music.  She also holds degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Ohio University.  Her principal teachers include George Sakakeeny, Eric Stomberg, and Richard Svoboda.
