Leigh Miller Muñoz
Leigh Miller Muñoz is adept as an orchestral musician, soloist, chamber musician and educator and brings a variety of experiences to her career.
Leigh is currently the contrabassoonist for the Springfield Symphony Orchestra and also has performed as bassoonist and contrabassoonist with many professional ensembles, including the Kansas City Symphony, Cedar Rapids Symphony, and the West Virginia Symphony Orchestras. Leigh has performed as concerto soloist with the University of Kansas Wind Ensemble, University of Kansas Symphony Orchestra, Ottawa University Symphony Orchestra and Ohio University Symphony Orchestra.
Leigh joins the faculty of the Bassoon Institute at Interlochen Arts Camp this summer. She is also bassoon faculty at the Midwestern Music Camp since 2006. While in Boston, Leigh’s work as a Community Outreach Fellow at the New England Conservatory of Music brought music to local elementary school students in the greater Boston area.
Leigh is also an active member of the double reed community She has given clinics on both bassoon and chamber playing at many public schools around the Kansas City and Lawrence areas. She has performed at multiple Midwest Double Reed Society Conferences and in 2009 was elected their treasurer. This summer she will be one of the solo contrabassoonists at a recital at the International Double Reed Society in Tempe.
Leigh is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Kansas. She also holds degrees from Oberlin Conservatory, New England Conservatory and Ohio University. Her principal teachers include George Sakakeeny, Eric Stomberg, Nancy Stutsman and Richard Svoboda.
